NuVal to Partner with American Council on Exercise
In September 2010, the American Council on Exercise (ACE), America's leading authority on fitness and the largest fitness certification, education and training organization in the world, announced a partnership with the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System to combat the growing obesity epidemic, promote small steps to a healthier lifestyle, empower Americans to make healthier choices, and provide tools and education to improve quality of life. NuVal is a joint venture formed by Topco Associates, LLC and Griffin Hospital to take the ONQI (Overall Nutritional Quality Index) food scoring system to market. The ONQI was developed under the direction of PRC Director, Dr. David Katz, and a team of leading nutrition, public health and medical experts.
Together, ACE and NuVal will work to empower consumers to build healthy eating habits that are important to their goals and long-term health with valuable information, tips and tools available on the ACE Get Fit website. The NuVal System, which is currently available in about 600 supermarkets in 21 states, ranks food products on a scale of 1 to 100 based on their overall nutritional quality - the higher the score, the more nutritious the food. Scores from its database (which currently includes 75,000 foods) are placed on grocery shelves so consumers can compare food products' scores along with their prices.
