Committees

Community Committee

In response to the Y-G PRC's expansion beyond the Lower Naugatuck Valley and a desire to design a more effective committee structure, the existing committee (formerly known as the Community Advisory Board) is undergoing modification to optimally represent all geographic target and research content areas. The Community Committee is an integral part of the PRC, not advisory to it. The main functions of the committee remain the same: 1) to assure that all activities undertaken by the PRC are in accord with community beliefs and priorities; 2) to participate in establishing community health priorities; 3) to actively participate on and recommend members for Theme Teams and Community Action Teams; and 4) to participate in the evaluation of the Center and its committee structure.

CC membership includes representatives from community agencies and organizations across the state including the state and local health districts, a local school district, faith based organizations, school-based and primary care health clinics, Griffin Hospital , the Valley Council, the local United Way, The New Haven Foundation, the Valley YMCA, Yale faculty, and others. CC membership also represents the various populations that live in the Y-G PRC's target communities. Current members have assisted in selecting new members to ensure that both individuals and organizational representatives with relevant expertise, skills, and leadership are involved. The CC therefore brings together individuals with many diverse skills and assets. Each member provides linkages in the community to strengthen current partnerships and foster new relationships.

Stewardship Committee

The function of the Stewardship Committee (SC) remains the same as the former Executive Committee. The name change more accurately reflects its role of stewardship rather than “executive” authority. The SC is one of the mechanisms in place for assuring communication between the Community Committee, Yale University, Griffin Hospital, and the administrative core of the PRC. It is chaired by the Principal Investigator of the PRC. Members are drawn from the Community Committee, Yale School of Public Health and Griffin Hospital. The primary role of the Committee is to guide the PRC operations with regard to allocation of resources in support of various initiatives; assess performance against the center's objectives; support the acquisition of facilities and other resources necessary for the operation of the Center; and provide information on key health priorities across the nation and internationally.
