Integrative Medicine Center

The Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital
(IMC) is uniquely designed to bridge the gap between
conventional and alternative medicine for a broad range
of medical conditions. Few healthcare centers offer
services like the IMC. It is founded on principles of
patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine and
provides evaluations that are holistic (consider the
whole person) and involve a conference of four on-site
experts (an MD specializing in internal and preventive
medicine, a PA with expertise in primary care and the
mind-body connection, and two NDs with expertise in
a wide array of natural, complementary and alternative
therapies). Treatment recommendations are based upon their discussion with you about your preferences and healthcare
goals, as well as consideration of research data that
supports available treatment options. The end result
is an in-depth, wellness-based consultation during which
you will be listened to, and provided the best possible
recommendations from the broadest spectrum of available
care.
During an initial evaluation, you will spend time
with two healthcare professionals: 40 minutes with a
natural medicine doctor, and 40 minutes with a conventional
medicine specialist. After the two professionals meet
with you, they meet with the Center Directors in a consensus
conference. At that time, the doctors will discuss your
situation, goals, preferences, and potential treatment
options. A care plan will be developed and reviewed
with you before you leave the Center.
Recommendations for treatment may include any number
of alternative or conventional medicine options. For
services not provided on-site, the IMC has established
relationships with a comprehensive panel of practitioners
from numerous alternative medicine disciplines, all
of whom are fully licensed/credentialed by the State
of Connecticut or within their discipline.
